4 Types Of Cremation: Understanding The Differences

Upon the passing of a loved one, cremation or burial are two of the many options available for the body's final resting place. However, in many modern societies, cremation has surpassed burial as the preferred method of final disposition.

That's because of a few key reasons, each of which deserves emphasis. A body does not need to be embalmed for cremation because the process is so clean and quick. Compared to traditional burial, which requires purchasing a casket, a burial plot, and paying for ongoing upkeep, cremation is a more economical option.

Types Of Cremations

Pre-planning clients often inquire with us at Blair Mazzarella Funeral Home about cremation, but many are unaware of four distinct types of cremation. Here are some details about each one.

  • Cremation With A Traditional Service - This type of cremation is more expensive than others because it incorporates a traditional cremation with additional funeral services such as renting a casket and applying to embalm. It is customary to cremate the body after a funeral service.
  • Cremation With A Memorial Service- No public viewing of the deceased's remains is permitted. Neither a casket nor the deceased's body is at the memorial service.
  • Cremation Without a Ceremony (Direct Cremation) - The body will not be embalmed, and there will be no viewing or visitation before cremation. Since cremation is performed only after death, it is a cost-efficient means of final disposition.
  • Cremation With The Body Being Donated To Science - Certain groups facilitate the donation of human remains to scientific institutions at the request of donors. As part of their service, the organization will pay for the cremation. The deceased's body must be cremated rather than buried to preserve the integrity of the organs and tissues used in the various tests and experiments,
