Obituary of Joseph Dominijanni

Joseph Dominijanni, age 91, died peacefully Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at home while under hospice care
and the care of his loving family.
Mr. Dominijanni is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne, his sister Marianne Donofrio, her husband Anthony
Donofrio, his sister-in-laws Anna Dominianni, and Anne Cosentino. Joseph was preceeded in death by his
brother Alphonso, sister-law Theresa Rea and brother-in-laws Joseph Rea and Joseph Cosentino. He is also
survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great
nephews.
Born October 30, 1925 in Calabria, Italy Joseph was the son of the late Vincenzo Dominijanni and the late
Mariantonia (Mongiardo) Dominijanni. At the age of 13, Joseph immigrated to the United States in 1939.
After high school, Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served during WWII from 1944 to 1946 and
was stationed in the Pacific. After the war, he was a mechanic for a number of Brooklyn based Oil companies.
In 1969 he became a transit mechanic, and then retired after 20 years of service with the NYC Transit
Authority.
Joseph loved his family and hosted many Christmas eve dinners where all enjoyed his fine food, specialty
items and most of all the love he had for all of us. Joseph, while a proud American, loved maintaining his
Italian roots by annually making Soppressata (Italian dry sausage) with his family and each year making his
special Torrone to share with everyone near and dear to him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday November 4 at the Basilica Regina Pacis at 1230
65th Street Brooklyn, NY 11219. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.
