It’s been a somber day. Titi Cuca’s passing has stirred up a whirlwind of emotions and memories. She was there before I was a thought. She was a lifelong friend of my mom, like two peas in a pod ... “Souls Sisters” who went to Clara Barton High School together. I’m glad I got to visit with her before Covid and share a few memories. I surprised her with their yearbook and she was elated to flip through it and recall teachers and classes. It was a moment of smiles. She loved the picture of me with The Ladies, her Girls and noticed the air of sadness although didn’t know why (Her sister had recently passed). She was then enjoyed the jelly donut I brought and wanted to paint her nails with the nail polish I brought her. She liked it on my nails from a previous visit. That last visit was long overdue and it makes me think of many moments growing up. She nearly lived with us. Lots of bbqs and beverages. She taught me how to make burgers and baked clams and gave me my first Heineken. After Mommy passed I’d trek to visit her deep in BK, the only apartment I ever knew her to have. We’d also meet up in Chinatown so she could indulge in her soft shell crabs When in season. And She was sure to visit with us when my oldest son Dahvid was born ... bringing a bite, checking in and hanging out on several occasions. She made all of the food for his 1st Birthday. She taught me how to play backgammon when I was a little girl and gave me my first set that I still have til this day. I brought that to play on our last visit too, although her memory of how to fully play was not there, it jogged a little something and she couldn’t believe I still had it. She also gave me a beautiful cocoa skinned doll, who’s name is Cookie that I still have as well. Titi Cuca giving me Cookie is the oldest memory I can recall ... I was still of crawling age .. ironically that memory I fondly shared on my Wellness Wednesday call I hosted yesterday. Many more memories come to mind, no chronological order, just the heart to dictate ... May Titi Cuca continue on in Eternal Life reuniting with family and friends and hanging once again with her Souls Sister, my mom Dolores ...
