Obituary of Sahodra Outar

My beloved Mother Sahodra Outar, known as Dolly, passed on December 26, 2022, as the sun set on her time here on earth. Mom was 64 years old, and she is survived by her three loving children Shane, Diane and Trevon and by her husband Deo. My mom was born on December 19, 1958, and was the daughter of Nomissar Persaud, known as Uncle Lochan, and Sheila Persaud in East Bank Demerara, Guyana. Mom was born and raised in Guyana and at the tender age of 8 lost her mother. She would go on to live with various family members. Her family origins are from India, and they settled in Guyana through the indentured system and were from the Pandit Caste. Growing up mom told many stories to me of when she was a little girl, seeing her great grandparents wearing dhotis, speaking Hindi and doing poojas as highly regarded religious leaders in their community. As my mom grew into a strong, beautiful and independent woman, she traveled to various countries, spending some years in Barbados studying nursing where her eldest son was born. Here in Barbados, she found Christ who would become her lord and Savior for the remainder of her life. She enjoyed going to Sunday service and some of her best memories was spending time with her family in Barbados where she became a big sister to her nieces and nephews. She also had a lot of wonderful memories in England, Canada and the US. My mom had a wonderful life, she didn’t have much or ask for much, and loved the simple things in life. She was always giving, loving and caring for others, she was an independent thinker, and she is my inspiration. Her values in kindness, humanity and love will pass on to future generations. I got to spend one last Christmas, her favorite holiday, and it was the best Christmas I ever had. There were no gifts, games, or drinks as usual. It was just me and my family by her side holding her hands for one last time and it was the greatest gift I ever received. Rest in Peace Mom. 12/ 19/ 1958-12/ 26 /2022
