Mike came to California for my wedding. Here he is with my brother Joe who has been his friend since probably 1st grade. Just chilling at Claim Jumper. Mike always liked this place because of the "big food" as he put it.

I work as a civilian for NYPD . When I saw the name Michael Beetchie in the Orders ss having passed away I wondered if it could have been the same Michael Beetchie from Good Shepherd. I Googled the obituary and was surprised he looked exactly the same except for the hair! Always a smile! Rest in Peace Michael

Mike has been a dear friend of our family since the early ’60s. I met him through my brother Joe. He was quirky in a fun way with a silly sense of humor. We teased him like we would any family member and always considered him part of the family. He also could dish out the teasing back at us….making it even more fun. I remember him wanting to become a cop and was willing to go to the ends of the earth to do whatever it took. One time he said to me, let’s go to California so I can see what I need to do. I thought….What? Go to California??? Why not just make a phone call? His response was something like….What fun would that be?... and so he offered to take me along for company. I was glad to be there for him, for company and moral support to encourage him to pursue his dream. I don’t recall all the details of that trip, but it’s safe to say he didn’t give up on his dream. Mike was always there for me, even if we were on opposite sides of the United States. He came to every major event in my life—wedding, 2 graduations and it would be nothing for him to jump on a plane to surprise me. He was full of surprises! He would send me a dozen roses telling me loves me…..that’s even after I was married. Lucky for me, my husband liked Mike too and knew he was a good guy that just wanted to brighten my day. Just a couple of weeks ago my brother told me that Mike was planning on surprising me in California….Joe (my brother) said that the surprise would be on him because I just moved to North Carolina. I was hoping that he was going to show up any day now. I’m so sad that we won’t share any more silly memories and major milestones. I even thought someday he would move closer, either to California or North Carolina. For now, I’ll treasure those precious memories and look forward to meeting him in the afterlife. Mike, you were a precious friend that I am so thankful to have had in my life. I will never forget you, your silliness, your generosity, your love.

Mike and I have friends since the first grade.Funny thing is that I don't remember how we met,he just seemed to come with the building, like he was there waiting for me. In fact we were more like brothers. We grew up together building model cars, racing bicycles, and once we got our driver's license motorcycles and cars. Mike was the best friend a person could have. If yoy were in trouble Mike was there to back you up. If you needed help with something he was always there. Mike was loyal to a fault as looked after his mom and two sisters and if you were lucky enough for him to consider you a friend he was there for life. As we grew up and started our careers he always stayed in touch and it was amazing that if you hadn't seen him in a year he could pick up the conversation exactly where you left off. It saddens me that Mike left us just when he was time for himself in retirement. I will miss his witty sarcastic humor which most people didn't get and hope when my time comes we will meet again and pick up where we left off. Godspeed Mike rubber side down.

Mike was my bud since thirteen years old. When he wanted to become a California Highway Patrol Officer we went to Cali to apply. They encouraged him to get his GED and reapply but he went a step further. He got it and then went to John jay to get a degree and the NYPD took him soon after. Awesome determination.
So many other great memories with him like going to Montreal at sixteen for the World Cycling Championship , racing bikes, building cars, hanging out in the Stuart street alley… great guy!
