Obituary of Linda Rosa Henning

Linda Rosa Henning née Muoio was born at Fordham Hospital in the Bronx on October 20, 1939 to Margarethe Berger and Michele Alfonso Muoio, a custom dressmaker for Christian Dior. She received a public education at PS 68 and the High School of Industrial Art (now Art & Design), where she received accolades in calligraphy and attendance, as well as membership in the National Honor Society. Upon graduation, she joined the Art Department of Norcross Cards. Due to the lack of opportunities there, however, she found advancement at the new Computer Department of the Colgate Company. To further increase her value in the marketplace, Linda took nighttime classes in typing and shorthand, successfully becoming an executive secretary at Rudder Magazine--so much so that when Rudder was taken over by Fawcett Publications, she was the only administrative assistant selected to join the newly formed team. Linda met her future husband, James, in the fall of 1961, and they married in August 1963. During the first years of their marriage, they lived on the Upper East Side until they decided to raise a family. So they bought a car and moved to James' neighborhood in Kensington, Brooklyn. From this time forward, Linda dedicated her efforts to being an expert homemaker, using her extensive artistic skills to assist her children in creative projects, such as art, music, theater, and dance. She was also an accomplished tailor and dressmaker, who designed and crafted extraordinarily beautiful special-occasion dresses for her family and friends. In the early 1970s, Linda and James joined the newly formed Albemarle Neighborhood Association which was dedicated to the safety of the community, and both served as officers until the present. Linda also served the community as an election poll worker, and Hospitality Lead for Teamsters Local 237. She and James also actively supported their daughter's theatrical and dance events, and have become beloved members of those artistic communities. She is survived by her husband James, daughters Carol and Elizabeth, and siblings Michael, Margaret, and Rose-Marie. Linda was deeply loved, and she greatly appreciated the many messages of support during her brief illness. She was a bright light in our lives, whose warm humor and frank, friendly manner will be missed by all who knew her.
