Obituary of Eleanor Greenberg
Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor Miriam Greenberg, aged 84, from Brooklyn, NY fought lung cancer with courage for over two years. She died peacefully surrounded by family on June 8,2024.
Born to Jeanne and Samuel Morgenstein in the Bronx, NY on October 9,1939, Eleanor grew up on Clarkson Avenue and completed her education at Erasmus Hall High school in Brooklyn, class of 1957. Following graduation, she married her husband, Allen Greenberg on November 30, 1959, by a rabbi after first eloping. They moved to Queens, NY where they raised their two children, Lisa and Evan.
Eleanor loved her job in the chart department at Billboard Magazine where she made lots of friends. She was always an avid Yankee Fan and in later years was a season ticket holder. She often attended games in person and found a second family among the fans around her. Other passions included watching Alabama college football, ice skating and tennis.
For many years she volunteered in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and served as the Division Commander for flotilla12-01. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and telling it like it is attitude. Her brisket, matzah ball soup, gefiltefish and spaghetti and meatballs are staples to her name.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Jeanne, her husband, Allen and her brother, William Morgenstein.
Eleanors legacy continues through her children: Lisa Maloney of Stratford CT and Evan (Lilly) Greenberg of Queens, NY. She also leaves her treasured grandchildren Matthew, (Erika), Samuel, (Jeffrey), Aileen, (Christopher), Ian, Daniel, Kathleen, Justin, Steven as well as her great grandchildren Logan and Nolan Maloney.
